Does this list look familiar? We all set goals every year, and many times we set the same goals each year. However, few people understand the importance of their mental health in setting any goal. In 2017 I would like you to try something different. Before you set your goals to change anything in your life, consider developing a mental wellness plan for 2017.
So, what is mental wellness, anyway? I'm so glad you asked. Let's start by defining mental health,
According to the World Health Organization, mental health is defined as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community."
With that in mind, mental wellness is then generally viewed as a positive attribute, such that a person can reach enhanced levels of mental health, even if they do not have any diagnosable mental health condition.
So the idea is that there is always room to grow in your mental and emotional well-being. When we are self-aware and develop healthy coping mechanism we are better able to deal with whatever life brings our way in 2017.
